At the intersection of Al-Farabi Avenue and Dostyk Avenue in Almaty, the Ritz Palace shopping center occupies a strategic and highly active urban intersection. Originally built as a casino, it was later turned into a shopping mall without a clear architectural vision, resulting in fragmented spaces and confusing circulation. The project redefines the entrance and reconnects the building with the surrounding public space.

The public square
The redesigned esplanade creates a clear and welcoming forecourt in front of the mall. New greenery, seating areas, and family-friendly spaces make the square more comfortable and inviting. It becomes both an arrival point and a place for everyday public life.

The new entrance is formed by a glazed steel structure wrapped in a perforated façade that filters sunlight. Escalators are repositioned to improve circulation, while higher ceilings bring more daylight inside. The intervention creates a brighter and more legible entrance.
